CHARLES MADISON BORDEN
  • Born 10/29/38 Colon, Rep. of Panama, moved to Conn. Aug. 1947, NY in 1949.
  • Father: Madison A.  (Little Cayman Island BWI)
  • Mother: Elsie W. Cooper Borden (Island of Utila, Honduras, CA)
  • Education:  TCS class of ’56, Broome Technical Community College class of 1961 A.A.S. in Mechanical Technology, Elmira College class of 1976 BS in Bus. Ad..
  • Family life: I married Anne Arden on 11/7/1966. We were married until her death on 12/29/99.  There were no children, we were partners in life and partners in business from the time we left the 9 to 5 routine in 1976 for a business venture in the Cayman Islands.  Anne was buried in Grove Cemetery next to her parents.  I was blessed with three brothers and three sisters (my oldest brother and sister recently passed away) and many loving nieces and nephews.  Presently I’m in a committed relationship. (NOYB)
  • The career years: The TCS yearbook said I was interested in a career in the army, actually it was the Navy.  I was 4F due to asthma by the Navy in 1956 and was placed in a job as a “Tool Design Trainee” by Henrietta Brown of the NYS employment service.  Miss Brown has passed away and is buried near my parents in Grove cemetery.  I spent twenty years in tool, machine design and as a project engineer with NCR, Morse div of Borg Warner and two engineering “job shops.”  All of that I owe to Miss Brown who found many jobs for H.S. grads in our area.

  • In 1976, I left T-Burg for the Cayman Islands where we built and operated an eight room fishing lodge on Little Cayman.

  • In 1979, we moved back to the states to live in St. Pete, Fl.  We both became licensed REALTORS in 1980 and became Broker/owners of a Century 21 franchise in 1982.  In 2002, after Anne’s death, a large Century 21 Chain bought our Business and commercial real estate property and I became a “semi-RETIRED REALTOR.”
  • Present: In April of 2003, I sold my home in St. Pete and moved to Heritage Isles in New Tampa.  I live about 6 or 7 miles from Mel and Lois Gorton, travel back to St. Pete to watch the Devil Rays play some major league baseball teams.  I most enjoy the Tampa Bay Lightning NHL hockey as a season ticket holder.  I worked in a public relations “Rewards” program for the Lightning for two years, before settling down in my seats near the Gortons.  We were thrilled in 2004 when we won the Stanley Cup.  I attend the United Methodist Church in Wesley Chapel (after all, I was named for my Methodist minister grandfather, Charles Wesley Cooper) almost every week.  I have spent recent vacations with brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces in Utah, Wyoming, New Hampshire and of course the Finger Lakes.  Last year was my first try camping alone with my little Jack Russell Terrorist in the Carolinas and I loved it.  This year (2007) I toured New England (the rest of the story later, maybe) and loved it even more.  I hope to do a cross-country camping trip in the near future.
  • Philosophy: I don’t know what the future holds, but I am looking forward to it.  I won’t need any money after I die, if there is any remaining, I planned it wrong.  If I am alive after the money runs out, I am a good cook, know a few family recipes and was always a loving Uncle.  LOL
